Welcome
Hi there! Welcome to letter time!
Did you know that letters help us read books, write our names, and even read signs?
The alphabet is all the letters we use. There are 26 of them!
Today we are going to meet some letters and learn the sounds they make. It is going to be so much fun!
Do You Know Any Letters?
Let's start with what you already know!
Meet Letters A to F
Let's meet some letters!
A says ah like apple.
B says buh like ball.
C says cuh like cat.
D says duh like dog.
E says eh like egg.
F says fuh like fish.
Those are the first six letters of the alphabet!
Every Letter Makes a Sound
Here is something really cool about letters.
Every letter makes its own special sound!
When you say a word, you are putting letter sounds together.
Like the word cat -- it starts with the cuh sound. That is the letter C!
And the word ball starts with the buh sound. That is the letter B!
Can You Find the Letter?
Now let's play a game!
Words are made of letters. And the first letter of a word tells you what sound it starts with.
Listen to this word: dog.
Dog starts with the duh sound. That means it starts with the letter D!
Let's try another one.
Letters Are Everywhere
Did you know that letters are all around you?
Letters are on signs outside.
Letters are on the cover of your favorite books.
Letters are on your cereal box at breakfast!
Letters are even on the screen you are looking at right now!
When you know your letters, you can start to read all those words!
You Are Learning the Alphabet!
You did it! You are learning the alphabet!
Today you met letters like A, B, C, D, E, and F.
You learned that every letter makes its own sound.
And you found letters in words and in the world around you!
You are going to be a great reader. Keep looking for letters everywhere you go!
